Packaging an InDesign file ensures that all necessary assets, such as fonts, linked images, and styles, are included in a single folder. This makes it easy for us to access everything needed to work with your design. Follow these simple steps to package your InDesign file for submission:
Check for Errors:
Open your InDesign file and check the “Preflight” panel (Window > Output > Preflight) for any missing links, fonts, or color issues.
Resolve any errors before proceeding.
Save Your Work:
Save your InDesign file to ensure all changes are up to date.
Go to the Package Option:
Click File in the top menu.
Select Package from the dropdown menu.
Review the Summary:
A dialog box will appear summarizing the file’s assets, including fonts, links, and color settings.
Make sure all items are listed as “OK.” If any issues appear, resolve them before proceeding.
Click “Package”:
Press the Package button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Choose a Location:
Select a folder or create a new one to save your packaged file. Name the folder something descriptive, like “Project_Name_Packaged.”
Fill Out the Instructions (Optional):
If prompted, you can add instructions or notes about the project for us. This step is optional, and we recommend letting us know if you include them.
Confirm Packaging:
Click Continue or Save. InDesign will create a folder containing the following:
A copy of the InDesign file.
A “Links” folder with all linked images and graphics.
A “Document Fonts” folder with the necessary fonts.
An “Instructions.txt” file (if added).
Locate the Packaged Folder:
Navigate to the folder where you saved the package.
Compress the Folder:
On Windows: Right-click the folder, select “Send to,” and choose “Compressed (zipped) folder.”
On macOS: Right-click (or Control-click) the folder and select “Compress.”
Upload the File:
Use https://nexus.mceprinting.com or submit the project through a “Request an Estimate!” submission at the bottom of most webpages.
Confirm Submission Details:
Include any necessary project details, such as contact information, quantity, and special instructions.
Ensure that all linked images are high-resolution (300 DPI or higher).
Package files as early as possible to identify and address any errors.
Avoid renaming or moving files within the packaged folder to prevent broken links.
