Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About A6 Japanese Bunkobon Light Novel (4.13" x 5.83" / 105 x 148 mm)

What is the Bunkobon format?

Bunkobon is the traditional Japanese A6 pocket paperback format (105 x 148 mm). It is compact, comfortable to hold single-handed on trains, and represents the standard publishing vehicle for Japanese light novels.

What is the minimum spine thickness for an A6 perfect-bound novel?

A minimum spine thickness of 0.08" to 0.10" (roughly 48 to 64 pages on 60lb Uncoated Opaque stock) is recommended for reliable perfect binding.

Which paper is best for A6 light novel interiors?

Our 60lb or 80lb Uncoated Opaque paper is recommended. It has an authentic natural texture, high opacity to eliminate bleed-through, and makes thick novels flexible and easy to read.

Can MCE Printing bind Bunkobon books with full-color front inserts?

Yes! You can configure 2 to 8 full-color glossy insert pages (kuchi-e) right before the black-and-white novel chapters begin.
