Prepress Checklist for ISO B5 Doujinshi & Art Booklet (6.93" x 9.84" / 176 x 250 mm) Files

Avoid production delays and unexpected reprints. Verify these 6 critical prepress criteria before uploading your print files.

01. 0.125" Bleed

Full Bleed Coverage

Every background color, splash art panel, and full-page illustration must extend completely to the 0.125" outer canvas border.

02. 0.250" Safe Margin

Safe Zone Clearance

All dialogue balloons, speech bubbles, page numbers, and vital art elements must sit at least 0.25" inside the trim boundary.

03. DPI Resolution

300 vs 600 DPI

Color images must be at least 300 DPI at 100% scale. Monochrome lineart and screentone manga should be prepared at 600 DPI.

04. Color Management

CMYK & Profiled RGB

Submit files in CMYK (GRACoL 2006 or SWOP) or sRGB with embedded color profiles. Ensure Total Area Coverage (TAC) is under 300%.

05. Black Inks

Rich vs Plain Black

Use 100% K for small text and dialogue to prevent color registration fringing. Use Rich Black (C:60 M:40 Y:40 K:100) for large dark fills.

06. Font Embedding

Outlines & Embedding

Convert all live typography to vector outlines (curves) or ensure all font subsets are 100% embedded within your exported PDF.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About ISO B5 Doujinshi & Art Booklet (6.93" x 9.84" / 176 x 250 mm)

When should I choose ISO B5 instead of JIS B5?

Choose ISO B5 (176 x 250 mm) if your artwork was drafted using international European ISO paper presets or if you prefer a slightly slimmer, modern aesthetic compared to the traditional wider Japanese JIS B5 (182 x 257 mm).

Can ISO B5 books be saddle-stitched?

Yes! For publications with 8 to 48 pages, saddle stitching is an economical, lie-flat choice. For volumes with 48 to 300+ pages, perfect binding with a square spine is recommended.

What bleed is required for ISO B5?

A standard 0.125" (3.175 mm) bleed is required on all four edges, yielding a total artwork canvas of 182.35 x 256.35 mm (7.18" x 10.09").

What interior papers are recommended for ISO B5 art booklets?

For art booklets and full-color illustration collections, 80lb or 100lb Silk Text provides a rich semi-matte surface with zero glare, while 100lb Gloss Text offers maximum color saturation.
